Classrooms

Purpose

Classrooms are general-purpose teaching spaces designed to support a variety of teaching and learning activities, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, presentations and collaborative learning. These spaces should provide a flexible, inclusive and technology-enabled environment that promotes student engagement, supports diverse teaching methods and delivers a consistent, high-quality learning experience across USP campuses.

 

Design Objectives

Classrooms should:

  • Support both traditional and active learning approaches.

  • Provide flexible furniture layouts to accommodate different teaching styles and class sizes.

  • Incorporate appropriate audio-visual and information technology systems.

  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all users.

  • Provide comfortable lighting, acoustics, ventilation and thermal conditions.

  • Facilitate clear sightlines between students, teaching surfaces and presentation screens.

  • Use durable, maintainable and sustainable materials suitable for high-use educational environments.

  • Allow for future adaptation as teaching methods and technologies evolve.
