Shared Offices

Purpose

Shared offices provide enclosed workplace environments for two or more staff members, supporting individual work activities while encouraging communication, collaboration and efficient use of space. These spaces should provide a balance between privacy, functionality and workplace interaction, while accommodating the operational needs of academic, administrative and professional staff across USP campuses.

Design Objectives

Shared offices should:

  • Provide comfortable and functional workspaces that support focused individual work and routine administrative activities.

  • Accommodate multiple occupants while maintaining appropriate levels of privacy, professionalism and workplace comfort.

  • Encourage collaboration, communication and knowledge sharing among office occupants.

  • Provide suitable furniture, storage and workplace technology for each occupant.

  • Incorporate appropriate information and communication technology infrastructure to support both in-person and virtual work activities.

  • Ensure equitable access to natural light, ventilation and external views wherever practicable.

  • Maintain appropriate acoustic performance to minimise distractions and support confidential discussions where required.

  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all users.

  • Provide comfortable lighting, thermal conditions and indoor environmental quality to support staff wellbeing and productivity.

  • Use durable, maintainable and sustainable materials suitable for long-term workplace use.

  • Allow flexibility to accommodate changes in staffing, organisational structures and workplace practices
