Purpose

Bedrooms provide private, safe and comfortable spaces for rest, study and personal activities within staff residences. These spaces should support the wellbeing, privacy and daily living needs of residents while providing a functional and welcoming home environment.

Bedrooms should:

  • Provide comfortable and private sleeping environments.

  • Support rest, relaxation and personal wellbeing.

  • Accommodate a range of household and family needs.

  • Provide adequate space for furniture, storage and circulation.

  • Promote natural light, ventilation and thermal comfort.

  • Incorporate durable, maintainable and fit-for-purpose finishes.

  • Support flexible furniture arrangements.

  • Provide access to power and ICT connectivity.

  • Ensure privacy from adjacent rooms and external areas.

  • Contribute to a safe and comfortable residential environment.

Typical Furniture & Equipment

A standard bedroom should typically include:

Main Bedroom

  • Double or queen-size bed

  • Bedside tables

  • Wardrobe or built-in cupboards

  • Chest of drawers

  • Study desk or writing desk (where applicable)

  • Chair

  • Mirror

  • Curtains or blinds

  • Power outlets and charging points

 

Secondary Bedrooms

  • Single or double bed

  • Bedside table

  • Wardrobe or built-in cupboards
